Director, Policy Advocacy & Research, Homeslessness NSW

Vee Blackwood is the Director of Policy, Advocacy & Research at Homelessness NSW, where they lead strategic policy development, sector advocacy, and research focused on ending homelessness and advancing housing justice. With a background spanning human rights, social policy, and community engagement across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, Vee has worked closely with government, community organisations, and lived-experience advocates to drive systemic reform.

Prior to joining Homelessness NSW, Vee contributed to major human rights and housing initiatives, including leading the New Zealand Human Rights Commission’s national housing crisis inquiry. Their work is grounded in a rights-based approach that centres dignity and equity and connects policy with lived realities.

At Homelessness NSW, Vee is leading a campaign for an increase in funding for homelessness services and a commitment to grow social housing in NSW. The campaign, A Place to Call Home and the Support to Keep It, is dedicated to fighting for systemic change to ensure that everyone can get the right help when it’s needed, and that safe, secure housing is available to everyone.
