Professor Tim Reddel

Professor Tim Reddel leads the Social Solutions research group within the Institute for Social Science Research at the University of Queensland. He previously led the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services’ Policy Office from 2016 to 2019, which was responsible for evidence-based policy, research and evaluation strategies. Tim joined the Australian Public Service in 2010 as Deputy Coordinator General for Remote Indigenous Services. Prior to joining the Australian Public Service, Tim worked in a range of senior executive roles in the Queensland public service, the community services sector and academia. Tim’s research is focused on developing tailored solutions addressing the multiple causes of poverty and disadvantage for population groups and places. He has written numerous research articles, book chapters, papers and reports on social policy governance, locational disadvantage, place-based interventions, and participatory policy approaches. He has also co-edited a book, Community and Local Governance in Australia published by UNSW Press in 2005 and a forthcoming new book, Place, Governance and Community in Australia: Past Present and Futures to be published by Bloomsbury in 2026.
