Kathy Pickett is a proud Noongar woman, mother of three children, and grandmother of eight grandchildren. With more than 30 years of experience working in Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, she has dedicated her career to supporting the social, emotional, and cultural wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
Kathy spent 20 years working throughout the Kimberley region, where she gained extensive experience in community development, mental health, education, and trauma-informed practice. She has worked in frontline and leadership roles supporting communities affected by suicide, child sexual abuse, family violence, and intergenerational trauma. She has also contributed to the development and delivery of mental health training programs for Aboriginal Health Workers and community practitioners.
Kathy holds a Master of Indigenous Therapies from Southern Cross University and completed advanced trauma training in the Harvard University’s refugee program Global Mental Health – Trauma and Recovery. Currently, Kathy is a research candidate at the Edith Cowan University and works as Aboriginal Cultural Advisor at Yorgum Healing Services, supporting both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal practitioners working with Noongar communities.
Her work is informed by both professional and lived experience, and she remains a passionate advocate for Aboriginal healing, cultural strengthening, and community wellbeing.
