Layla Campbell-Cook
Foyer Foundation
Speaker
Foyer Champion, and Gold Coast Youth Foyer resident
Layla is a young Indigenous woman from Dhunghutti Country who is a current resident Gold Coast Youth Foyer.
Layla believes everyone deserves the sense of self-worth, pride, and happiness that comes from being connected to culture and to people who believe in you. This is why she advocates. Layla reckons it is the responsibility of the next generation to stand up for issues that matter to them but also that it is urgent that we all act to make sure all young people are given a chance.
Layla is working towards a career as a police officer to create change to the police system and work to resolve stigmas and barriers between the police force and Indigenous people, as well as young people broadly. When she’s not working to change the future, you’ll find Layla playing rugby league or painting Indigenous artwork.
