Codie Schaefer
Aboriginal Housing Victoria
Speaker
Senior Policy Officer – Aboriginal Homelessness Reform, Aboriginal Housing Australia
Codie is a proud Bundjalung woman with ten years' experience in the sector, having begun her career working in family violence before moving into homelessness service delivery. Across this time, she has developed a deep commitment to building an Aboriginal-led homelessness system, one that is safe, accessible, and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Codie believes equitable access to housing must be non-conditional and grounded in community. Central to her vision is ensuring housing is delivered alongside genuine, wraparound support, recognising that a safe home is only the starting point for healing and stability. Codie's work is driven by the belief that lasting change comes when Aboriginal communities lead the solutions that affect their own lives.
