Speaker

Foyer Champion, and former Gold Coast Youth Foyer resident

Alkira is a proud Gomeroi/Gamilaraay and Dhunghutti woman who  knows first-hand what can happen when young people are given the right space, tools, resources, and support systems to step into their potential and futures. It changes the way young people see themselves. Alkira passionately draws from her own experiences and journey. She wants young people to experience the sense of belonging and opportunity to explore she experienced at Gold Coast Youth Foyer, and she understands the importance of having a vision for your future and learning to be in service from living and working on Dhiyaan’s Bethel Farm in Dalby, QLD, a working property that runs cultural and community programs. For Alkira, advocating is part of her everyday as she mentors and shares knowledge from her lived experience, serving as living proof to other young people about what is possible.

You’ll find Alkira riding horses as often as she can - she also works with racehorses and as a strapper. Working with young people is Alkira’s purpose and working with horses is her passion, and her goal for the future is to combine the two together.
